When you consider the functionality of a new conservatory for your home, the security of your family and possessions is obviously an important factor. We also make this consideration in all our products which is why we have invested heavily in the latest technology and manufacturing techniques in order to deliver market leading products. Customers of Joedan can purchase their conservatory with confidence that the investment made will keep any unwanted visitors out and the whole family safe.

Noise Reduction

When adding a conservatory to your home, you have to consider how well it keeps noise out from the busy outside world. For properties in the countryside, this may not be a major issue. However, in more built up areas, the sounds of cars and busy life want to be kept out.  We have developed quality products to achieve this. Whatever your requirements, we have the right product for you and your home.

UPVC, Aluminium or Heritage – the choice is yours…

upvc cream windows

A UPVC conservatory is the easy choice for many people because it is affordable, low maintenance and long lasting. UPVC is very thermal efficient and provides a very good level of noise reduction. For some people, the negative is that UPVC conservatories often don’t give the aesthetically pleasing addition that people are looking for, however recent developments within home improvements such as woodgrain finish, mean that you can get practicality, cost effectiveness and beauty with your new conservatory.

Aluminium is the strength behind any large bespoke conservatory project, as it is a lightweight, yet very strong building material, especially for conservatory roofs, and each roof double glazed sealed unit is extremely heavy and requires strong support. Our powder-coated, aluminium-framed designs give both lightness and strength to the conservatory walls which support a roof design that has been specially developed for Joedan conservatories.

You could be forgiven for mistaking Traditional Heritage windows and doors for authentic timber products, such is the replication of the aesthetics in style, dimension and finish. The window sash sits flush with the window frame in the closed position – a standout feature of 19th Century timber windows. However, the Traditional Heritage frame is actually a composite material which boasts 21st Century advantages such as a low maintenance finish, integral thermal efficiency and durability. Traditional Heritage windows and doors are mechanically jointed as opposed to welded and this is one of several reasons why these windows can be considered for use in conservatories and orangeries.

A quality conservatory requires a quality roof…

Any conservatory roof should be glazed appropriately to ensure a comfortable living environment all year round. Joedan Conservatory roofs can be fitted with a variety of technically advanced glazing materials, each with specific light and heat control benefits, affected by factors such as geographical location, cost, energy conservation and aspect.

An economical, lightweight, yet tough alternative to glass, polycarbonate roofing is durable and resistant to the effects of UV and sunlight. A polycarbonate roof is available in a range of thicknesses. Many conservatory roofs are created using polycarbonate (PVC) material as it is great at eliminating heat loss and keeping generated warmth inside for longer periods.  PVC roofs can be supplied in an opal, bronze or clear finish.

Conservatory roofs can have double glazed units of toughened safety glass or laminate glass. A glass roof is much quieter during precipitation than polycarbonate roofing. For the best long term result, opt for the highest thermal efficiency unit your budget allows, plus consider the benefits of Pilkington Self Cleaning Glass. Bronze, green, grey or blue anti-sun glass is also available to reduce glare and heat build up on conservatory roofs. Glazing features such as Georgian bars, arches, rectangles and diamond leads can be added to more complex conservatory roof designs

Solid Roof

More and more people are now opting for the less traditional solid roof on top of their conservatory or orangery. Solid roofs give ultimate privacy and energy efficiency, however they obviously limit the amount of natural light that other roofs types can deliver. Roof windows and integrated spotlights can help overcome any lighting issue allowing you to maximise enjoyment from your home improvement.

Every colour under the Sun…

Although white has been the accepted colour choice for conservatories for a generation, Joedan has many more options than that in both the UPVC and Aluminium ranges.

While brilliant white has the smooth finish of gloss painted wood, more and more people are choosing the coloured look. The coloured frames have a natural woodgrain texture that looks and feel like stained timber.

The aluminium range now comes in 21 stylish colours, whilst with UPVC, woodgrain finishes are becoming more and more popular and come in 9 different colour options.

Joedan Home Improvements will take care of all necessary Planning Permission & Building Regulations for the installation of your Victorian conservatory with your local authority – however here is a summary of the basic facts.

Under the present legislation, if certain criteria are met you will not require planning permission in the Gloucestershire & Wiltshire areas for Victorian conservatories, unless you are adding a conservatory to a house that has already been extended. In addition, developers sometimes place further restrictions so it is worth checking if your house is a ‘new build’.

In order to remain exempt from planning permission, Victorian conservatories must adhere to the following principles:

At least half of the new wall and three quarters of the roof is either glazed or translucent material.
They are built at ground level and are less than 30 square metres in floor area.
The conservatory is separated from the house by external quality door(s).
Glazing and any fixed electrical installations comply with the applicable building regulations requirements.
From 1st October 2008 new rules for conservatories and extensions took affect which replaced the old rules and affect conservatories as follows:

No extension forward of the principal elevation or side elevation fronting a highway. This means that any conservatory on the front or side of a house that will be closer to a public highway than the original house will need planning permission. A highway is any public right of way including footpaths.
Maximum depth of a single-storey rear extension of three metres for an attached house and four metres for a detached house. The width of a conservatory running along the back length of a house is not constrained at all unless it projects beyond the house which is constrained by rule 3. A house is only detached if there is no solid structure connecting it to a neighbour. A “link” house is therefore not detached nor would be two houses with a common garage. The rules on what counts as being detached have not changed from the previous ones.
Side extensions to be single storey with maximum height of four metres and width no more than half that of the original house.
Maximum eaves height of an extension within two metres of the boundary of three metres from the lowest point on the ground.
No balconies or raised platforms.
On designated land no permitted development for rear extensions of more than one storey; no cladding of the exterior; no side extensions.
No more than half the area of land around the “original house” would be covered by additions or other buildings.
Maximum height of a single-storey rear extension of four metres.
While permitted development rights now allow for the construction of many Victorian conservatories without planning permission you may have to limit their size and material construction if you want to avoid building regulations. If a conservatory you are building does not meet any of the above four rules then it will have to adhere to building regulations in full.
