Sales Tactics To Be Careful Of When Buying Home Improvements

Unfortunately, not all window and door sellers are quite so upstanding, and will do whatever they can to get a deal across the line. 

So that you don’t fall for their traps, we want to alert you to some of the underhand sales techniques they like to use:

Price conditioning

A first-time buyer of windows and doors might not have any idea of what price they will need to pay for them. 

In this situation, a salesperson may revert to ‘price conditioning’, offering a quote that they claim is the best you will get anywhere, when deep down, they know that’s unlikely to be true.

Fake discounts

It’s recommended that you obtain quotes from at least three different companies so that you can figure out a good deal. You will find Joedan’s pricing to be very reasonable when compared to others. 

As an attempt to put you off getting quotes elsewhere, a salespeople could completely invent a discount and say ‘take it or leave it’. It may seem a good discount, but, in reality, it won’t be. 

Large price drop

To create a shock reaction, a salesperson might purposely overquote and state a ridiculously high price for the windows and doors you want. 

Their aim is to make you express surprise and exclaim “How much?” so that when they then vastly reduce the original price, you will mistakenly believe you are getting a fantastically low price, when you’re not. 


Sometimes, when a salesperson asks you the direct question of “What do you want to pay for your new windows and doors?”, they do it so they can use the figure given to come up with a price. 

This quote might meet or come close to the price you state, but it could be way more than you should be paying, and the salesperson won’t tell you that. They’ll just happily take your money.
